Ice Climbing and Winter Mountaineering

With the right gear and knowledge you can enjoy climbing in the mountains during the winter. The Villager Motel is the perfect base camp. We are minutes to the National Forest as well as some great climbing venues such as Frankenstein Cliff, Willy's Slide, Huntington Ravine, Mt. Willard and Pinkham Notch. Winter mountaineers and climbers are reminded to register before heading out to the hills - and please remember to climb responsibly!

International Mountain Climbing School: Our climbing programs are open to people of "All ages, All abilities, All the time". Our mission is to provide a safe, enjoyable and worthwhile experience to everyone that climbs with us. Our long-term goal is to run a friendly, personal guide service that people will return to year after year. It's a serious job but one that allows us to share the excitement of climbing with you. Along the way we will help you build skills and gain experiences that will make you a better climber and mountaineer. Bartlett Backcountry Adventures: Skiing and climbing in the mountains are great ways to challenge yourself and explore the world. We offer outdoor skills instruction and guided trips to the mountains and cliffs of the White Mountains. Our courses teach outdoor skills and judgement with the goal of developing highly skilled, well-rounded mountaineers. Outdoor activities inherently involve risk. We teach participants to evaluate and manage this risk through development of technical skills, decision-making ability, and preparation with the proper equipment. Courses are active backcountry trips to some of the most spectacular alpine areas in the East. All courses can be custom tailored to help you attain your personal goals.

Chauvin Guides International: Chauvin Guides International is a climbing guide and instruction service operating out of North Conway, New Hampshire in the middle of the spectacular White Mountains. We offer private guiding, courses, and group instruction in all the rock, alpine and ski mountaineering disciplines. CGI also offers the the most highly developed avalanche program in the East. Our programs include guided ascents and instruction at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Whether you are a beginning climber looking for your first experience in the mountains or an experienced rock or ice climber looking to improve your skills, CGI has the program that will best fit your needs. We guide and teach locally here in the White Mountains where our cliffs, ice flows and Mount Washington provide outstanding opportunities for rock climbing, ice climbing, mountaineering and ski mountaineering. If your goals include climbs in more exotic locations CGI also offers climbing and ski trips outside of our local area.

EMS Climbing School: We are the oldest and largest climbing school in the eastern U.S. Our staff of professionals take their job very seriously. Sure, we provide you with the most up-to-date equipment and offer the most comprehensive programs around, but the foundation on which to judge us is our staff. These are the people at the other end of your rope, and it pays to make certain they are the best available. The management team of the EMS Climbing School is comprised of five individuals with a combined climbing experience exceeding 100 years, and guiding experience exceeding 55 years. They support a large, versatile staff of instructors with an incredible variety and breadth of experience: from climbing peaks all over the world to introducing kids to the joys of a small local crag. We teach over 3000 lessons a year to individuals of all ages and abilities. These people have chosen us because of our reputation for safe, professional instruction and our ability to adapt programs to meet their particular needs. They looked for the experienced, competent staff whose judgment they knew they could trust.

The Mountain Guides Alliance: is a referral agency which represents professional independent guides and maintains the highest guiding standards possible. Only the most experienced guides and most dedicated teachers are accepted as its members. Its students are assured compassionate and expert professional instruction that is geared specifically to their individual needs. As a fundamental policy, students are never matched with other students unless specifically requested.

MEMBER GUIDES ARE PROFESSIONAL CLIMBERS and professional teachers who can share with you a lifetime of experience in the mountains. In the European tradition, they are expert in technical climbing on rock, snow, and ice, with extensive knowledge of weather and climbing conditions. Working for themselves, they take pride in giving each person the best climbing experience possible.
