Cross Country Skiing

The Cross Country Skiing is Fabulous in the Mt. Washington Valley whether you are a beginner, traditional or skate skier or your looking for the sweet backcounty this area has it all and the Villager Motel is perfectly located.

We are trailside on the Bear Notch Ski Network. Take that moonlight or early morning ski. We also have a small network of trails down to the scenic Saco River.

We would like to help you master the basics or fine tune your advanced skills, start you off on the right foot and finish on a faster ski (sorry!, sometimes phrases like that just happen). We love XC skiing and want you to love it too. Forget the miss-marketing of the past. If you know how to walk, you do not know how to XC ski, but we can teach you. Please consider discovering and developing the XC skier in you by spending some time with us. Especially if you are a novice. Especially if you want to travel a path that can lead to magic moments flying on skis.

A truly Grand HotelBretton Woods - Based on the grounds of the historic Mount Washington Hotel and the White Mountain National Forest, the Bretton Woods Nordic Ski Area is one of the largest cross country areas in the East. The 100 kilometer trail network follows golf courses, meanders through glades of spruce and fir, passes beaver ponds and mountain streams, and traverses open hardwood stands.

Dominated by views of Mount Washington and the famous Presidential Ridge, the 154+km trail system spans three river valleys and 60 square miles of the splendid highlands of the White Mountains. Starting from our base lodge, skiers choose a tour to sunny open vistas, serene woodland terrain, challenging mountain descents or our world class race course areas. Jackson's trails are designed and cut to offer optimum skiing conditions during the long winter season.

Great Glen Trails - We get early and late snow here in Pinkham Notch and our snowmaking ability extends our season even further.

Our trail system at the base of Mt. Washington in the White Mountains is surrounded by spectacular views of the Presidential Mountain Range and is tended to by our highly skilled groomers. Cross-country skiers and snowshoers of every ability can find trails and terrain to match their skills.

Our ski school instructors are dedicated to creating an environment that will provide the guidance and support to help you develop new skills whether you are a novice or a seasoned skier. The Great Glen Junior Development Program returns for its fifth year. This program focuses on technique and fitness development for aspiring skiers and athletes, ages 12-18 years.

Don't even think of leaving the area without taking a winter trip up the Mt. Washington Auto Road to treeline in the incredible SnowCoach . Imagine looking down on the surrounding Northern Presidential Mountains and Great Gulf Wilderness in winter!


Mount Washington Valley Ski Touring
